Nicola started drawing with fine liners at 16, whilst travelling from Chelmsford to London on the train to college and this led on to Painting in her free time.
Originally from Essex but now calls Margate (in Kent) her Home.
the only time she had heard of Thanet was in the song “Billericay Dicky” by Ian Dury.
It wasn’t until she moved to Whitstable, that she started to explore Thanet.
Nicola has been working with clay for 8 years now. Her passion for clay started in Broadstairs, on an adult education course. “My mother was interested in the pottery course, and I was just tagging along!” she says; “I was hooked from the moment I started meeting all the clays and feeling all the different textures.”
She makes on her kitchen table, in small handmade batches. Works are created to be fun, decorative and are inspired by the world around her. The introduction of other materials, such as fabric or wood, led to the invention of practical products like the Christmas Tree Toppers or lucky hairy hands
